On Monday i took a trip to the Boston Museum of Science. There were many amazing exhibits. The museum was full of nature and animal information. My favorite part was seeing a 4D shark movie. While learning about these amazing creatures we got to experience water splashing in our faces and real life effects. I enjoyed how hands-on this museum was because i love to touch things. Another part i liked was the dinosaur exhibit. Real dinosaur bones were displayed and they were ginormous. it is crazy that a creature can be so big. I learned a lot at this museum and would love to go again and see the parts i didnt get a chance to see. The food was also pretty good. It was a good experience.

The statue of Laocoon and his Sons is one of the most famous sculptures from ancient times. Laocoon was a Trojan priest that was actually the priest of Apollo, who i researched in a previous blog. The story of Laocoon is very complex and interesting. He was killed by his two sons. The photographs of the statue that i found depict Laocoon being viciously killed by snakes and serpents. It was hard to find the reason why he was killed by his sons due to different theories but that leaves the story of Laocoon a mystery.

Ancient Greek theater began in 6th century BCE in Athens. The first plays performed were inspired by tragedy and later comedy as well. Art and visual creations played a huge role in the theatrical masterpieces from this time. Extravagant costumes, sets, and masks were created to enhance these performances. The physical art that has survived from these ancient times says so much about Ancient Greek theater. It gives us an understanding of history and culture through colorful, expressive works of art. Theater was a way for people of Ancient Greece to express their culture and who they were as people. Their performances reflected the world and society they lived in. Theater was also greatly inspired by their Gods. Not only were the art and performances extravagent, but the theaters in which they were held were immense and beautiful. Theater was taken very seriously in Ancient Greece and we continue to learn about their culture through different forms of art that still exist today from so long ago.

Apollo Greek God of the Sun

I chose this dude because he was on the top of the list and i didnt feel like reading through all of the Gods. In my opinion, Apollo was the God of beauty. He was not only the god of sun, but music, poetry, art, medicine, light and knowledge. In Greek mythology, Apollo was often referred to as "The Healer" because he taught men the art of medicine. In Roman mythology, he was known as "The God of Light" or "The God of Truth." Apollo was the son of Leto and Zeus and he was born on the island of Delos. He had a twin sister named Artemis. Apollo was a babe magnet who got lots of Greek bitches. His most famous and long term mistress was a mortal named Hecuba, who was the mother to his son, Troilus. Troilus was one of four children. Apollo is often depicted holding a bow and arrow that he used to save his mother from Python.

EGYPT......drum roll please.......... AND THE ART OF IMMORTALITY

here are some cool facts i learned from your cool article...  egyption art was used to praise the pharoah (disceased) and to assure they rest in peace. the egyptians respected the dead and their bodies so much that art and hieroglyphic told the story of each individual mummy. i dont think i would mind being mummified during this time, especially if i had a royal tomb, that would be sick. this artical also introduces egyptology, a special branch of the science of archeology. this is essentially studying antiques such as precious rocks. art, and inscriptions and discovering their meanings. i love that we are combining art, science, and history in a beautiful way.

http://www.salon.com/2017/01/15/the-art-of-learning-why-art-history-might-be-the-most-important-subject-you-could-study-today/

Hello this is my first blog post of the 2017-2018 school year. i didnt particularly enjoy the article assigned, titled "The Art of Learning" and had a hard time reading it because it was too fluffy and most of it did not intrigue me. However, this article is full of beautiful information on the importance of art history. It was a juicy article packed with information about the importance of education on art history; how art is a language in itself trying to be heard. But the educational system does not recognize art history as an equal to american history or literature. In this article i found some amazing facts about ancient art and how it reflected its time period and environment.
"16th- and 17th-century paintings should not be seen with bright electric lights. Sure, it’s easier to see with them, but they were not intended to be seen thus, centuries before the invention of the lightbulb. They are dark and murky, crisscrossed or engulfed by shadows: that was how they were meant to be seen."  This is something i would have never known if i didnt read this article and i thought it was very interesting.
I would suggest though less fluff but shorter and to the point and more creative than factual. Photographs would also be a nice touch in the article such as pictures of historical fine art to serve the topic of the article justice. The history of art is underrated and the educational system needs to recognize this and make it a more prevalent focus in schools. ::)))))

While exploring a variety of galleries I came across the Burning In Water Gallery. It is located in New York, NY. This gallery caught my eye right away because of its cultural diversity. As shown in the video link below from the galleries website, artists express their culture and political views through their work. A large portion of the artwork in this gallery is abstract. Many pieces are shown online that I have included below.

Collages are such a fun and unique form of art. Collage art ranges from simple to complex pieces made out of various materials. These can include paper, magazines, photographs, newspapers, etc. Some great collage artists are John Walker, Eileen Agar, and Mimmo Rotella who all have different styles of expression. The term collage derives from the French word, Papiers colles, used to describe techniques of pasting paper cut outs on various surfaces. Below are various collages that are unique to each other. Some are busy, others are simple, and most of them are vibrant and colorful.

Recently walking to a coffee shop near the RISD museum I came across a large gate-like sculpture that decorated the entrance of a building. I looked at it up close and realized it was bamboo strung together and painted white. I'm a big fan of bamboo. I have bamboo in my room that is 2 months dead because I forgot to water it so I painted it. I was inspired by the use of dead bamboo as a canvas that I have taken a liking in painting on random shit. Some artists do this and it doesn't look like trash. They use objects around them as canvases, rather than limiting paintings to a flat boring surface. Everywhere I go I see art. The world is one big canvas. Desks in classrooms are painted with vibrant colors and buildings are covered in graffiti. We recently painted on old vinyls that Kristen discovered in her daily trash picking ;))) The world is a canvas!!! even Trumps face on bathroom walls.

Botanical Art

Botanical art is the depiction of plants through mediums such as paints, watercolor, illustrations, etc. It has been a popular form of art as long as artists and plants have existed together. An initial relation between plants and art in early years was informational books on botany with illustrated images of plants. The purpose of botanical art is to capture life and color in earths creations. Alexandra Marshal is a wonderful botanical artist that uses soft, neutral, and rustic colors to capture the beauty of flowers and plants. She shows a particular fascination in wilted flowers, which look extraordinary in her work.
